Jenny Owens and Scott Kneller have both qualified through to the finals of the ski cross World Cup in Cypress Mountain, the venue for the freestyle skiing events of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.
Owens recorded the 12th fastest time in the women's timed elimination round, making the journey down the 1.13 kilometre course in one minute 19.34 seconds.
Kelsey Serwa of Canada was the fastest qualifier, posting a time of 1:16.89, while five time Worlld Cup champion Ophelie David of France was in second place with 1:17.89.
“I took it easy today,” the AIS 31-year-old said.
“I wasn’t too worried about my time, as I knew we’d all be pretty close together.”
“I’m a different skier in the finals, and I’ve made it through (to the podium) from that sort of position before.”
Ski and Snowboard Australia athlete Scott Kneller made the men's final, the first of his career, putting up a great performance to ski from the 52nd start position into 31st place.
He completed the course in a time just 2.58 seconds slower than fastest qualifier, Christophe Delbosco of Canada.
Kneller's SSA team-mate Katya Crema, returning from injury, opted not to start in the event, protecting her rehabilitated knee from what is not only a long course, but also one with some of the larges jumps on the circuit.
The four-skier head-to-head finals round will be held early Saturday morning Australian time.
