Jenny Owens has finished in ninth place in a ski cross World Cup in Grindlewald, after adverse snow conditions forced the cancellation of the finals rounds. The 30-year-old AIS rider recorded a time of one minute and .18 of a second, 3.89 seconds behind fastest qualifier Ophelie David of France, but just .73 of a second slower than the second fastest qualifier, David’s team-mate Marion Josserand.

With bad weather and dangerous course conditions ending any chance of head-to-head finals, the qualifying placings stood as the final result.

Ski and Snowboard Australia’s Katya Crema finished in 32nd place, Sami Kennedy was 39th, while the men’s event was cancelled.

“Jen made a couple of mistakes in qualifying which pushed her back down the field,” said OWI Ski Cross Coach Matt Lyons.

Two days later, in Meiringen, Owens placed 17th.
She qualified in eighth place, but then was brought down by Swiss skier Sanna Leudi in her round of 32 head-to-head final.

Crema finished in 40th place, while team-mate Scott Kneller was 40th in the men’s event, the latter missing a place in the finals by just two tenths of a second.

With one event in the season remaining, the World Cup finals in La Plagne, France, Owens sits in 12th place on the World Cup standings on 212 points.

David has already wrapped up the title, her sixth consecutive ski cross crown.
