OWI individual scholarship holder Jenny Owens finished 43rd and 46th in Super G, and 47th in downhill in Cortina over the weekend, but showed plenty of signs that she is coming to terms with her new skis, and finding the form that took her to top 30 results last season and a ninth place in the Salt Lake 2002 combined.
Jenny has switched from Atomic to Rossignol mid season, and has to learn to re-establish her position on the skis, and how to make them work best.
In the Cortina downhill, in particular, it all seemed to be coming together, Jenny skiing to 28th place on the turns and steep section of the course, and carrying a lot of speed out of the technical section before a mistake in the last part of the course robbed her of a good placing.
But she heads to the world championships next month with greatly improved confidence.
In men’s events, Jono Brauer finished in 28th place in a Europa Cup event in Saas Fee, Switzerland, in a 90-strong field peppered with World cup racers.
In the Wengen World Cup slalom three days later, he unfortunately failed to finish the first run.
