Warren Potent is almost the forgotten man of the Australian shooting team, and it’s a position he really enjoys.

While Michael Diamond and Russell Mark get most of the headlines, the quietly-spoken Potent is happy to go about his business.

Potent claimed Australia’s only shooting medal in Beijing, a bronze in the 50m prone rifle, and he’s looking forward to getting out to the London Artillery Barracks today to add to his personal medal tally.

And while the years between Beijing and London haven’t seen great results for Potent, the past couple of months have shown him, and his fellow competitors, that a medal is not out of the question.

“I’ve had a couple of really good months coming in here so the confidence is up,” Potent said.
“I’ve been tinkering around with a few things and it has all come together.”

Potent believes his form is “about the same” as it was prior to Beijing, and that is giving him confidence as he finalises his preparations.

“Knowing that I shot well at the Olympic Games last time means that I can do it again,” Potent said.
Leading into the Games, much of the talk was about the sometimes fickle London weather, and while LOCOG and most athletes are hoping for blue skies and sunshine to continue, that’s not the case for the Sydneysider.

“The windier the better for me,” Potent said.

“Cold, windy, rainy – they are all conditions that I enjoy and shoot my best in.”
