The Australian sailing team returned to the seas of Singapore today as they were chasing some good results to help push themselves up the overall standings.
With a lack of wind cruelling any chance of competition on the scheduled 4th day of racing, Aussies Madison Kennedy and Mark Spearman were back on the water today and landed some mixed results.
Spearman managed to work his way into the top ten for both races seven and eight, while Kennedy couldn’t match her previous best of 11th from earlier in the regatta.
Spearman claimed a 6th in the first race, currently his second best performance to date, before a 10th in the day’s final race as he moved into 11th spot overall.
“Mark had a really good day,” coach Ben Callard said.
“It was exactly what he needed.”
While Spearman was creeping up the overall standings Kennedy did her best to match her compatriot but couldn’t quite come up with the results, finishing 15th and 19th in the day’s races.
“It was a tough day for Madison, as she found it difficult to stay in touch with the fleet,” Callard said.
“She got some really good starts but wasn’t able to optimise these.”
Kennedy would have been feeling tremendously unlucky when the 3rd race of the day, 9th of the regatta, was called off due to a lack of wind as she battled for a top five position.
The sailors will take to the waters of the National Sailing Centre for the next two days as they look to be at their best when the medals are decided on the last day of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.
