Salt Lake 2002 Olympians Mark McNee, Alex McEwan and Stephen Lee are heading for their second Winter Games after making their way through the Australian short track speed skating qualifying trials in Sydney.

The trio will be joined by fellow Brisbane skaters Lachlan Hay, 19, and Elliot Shriane, 18, the two remaining members of the Olympic Winter Institute team which earned Australia a place in the 5000m relay at Torino 2006 through their performances in World Cup events in Europe in November.

In the Australian women's trials, Brisbane 19-year-old Emily Rosemond was too strong for rising NSW junior Bree McSweeny, booking her place in the 1000m and 1500m individual events at the Games.

The men's individual event places will be finalised in another round of trials at the Sydney Ice Arena in Baulkham Hills tomorrow, with Mark McNee, 24, looking most likely to skate the 1000m and 1500m, and 28-year-old Alex McEwan and McNee the best chances for the 500m spot.
