Santer earned 80.13 points from the judges in his free program for a total points score of 121.57 points. Team-mate Sean Carlow placed 15th on 111.85 points while Stuart Beckingham was in 17th place with 106.20 points.
The men’s event was won by Evan Lysacek of the United States on a combined points total of 196.39.
Lysacek had been fifth after the short program, but skated an excellent free program to post 133.14 points, nearly 10 points clear of Daisuke Takahashi of Japan and 11 clear of Chengjiang Li of China, who had led the field after the short program.
Li held on for the silver medal with 194.09 points, with Takahashi taking the bronze on 192.29 points.
Best of the Australian pairs in the Ice Dancing were Natalie Buck and Trent Nelson-Bond, who finished in 14th place on 111.55 points. Team-mates Danika Bourne and Alexander Pavlov were in 14th place on 100.64 points.
