GYMNASTICS: Encouraging signs for Commonwealth Games gold medallist Prashanth Sellathurai, returning to competition at the 2015 British Championships after shoulder surgery 15 months ago.
The triple World pommel horse medallist studies Medicine at Buckingham University close to London and the opportunity to compete in the British Championships was welcomed as a warmup before the Slovenian Challenge Cup.
Sellathurai has been working hard to rehabilitate his shoulder, re-establish his routine condition and add a new element to upgrade his D score.
Returning to competition proved to be a nervous proposition for Sellathurai. His performance at the British Championships included a number of positives, with a new routine re-structured to include a Busnari element which he performed successfully.
Sellathurai is working on his routine fitness, while his condition will improve as his shoulder strengthens and allows him to perform more routines.
In addition to the British Championships, Sellathurai qualified sixth for the pommel horse final at the Ljubljana World Cup.
In the finals Sellathurai finished fifth, scoring 15.0 with a D score of 6.7 to finish only 0.275 from the gold medal winner, Oleg Verniaiev.
Proshi did a good job after a bit of a shaky start in the scissor handstand but recovered well. The plan was to compete the Busnari before the dismount, however, he was a little off in the pivot so went into the dismount. This was a positive result for Sellathrai who is still in a re-building phase after shoulder surgery 15 months ago.
Sellathurai will now work towards routine fitness for the World Championships later this year.
