A total of seven medals are on offer for Australians in the pool on Day 6.
One of the busiest girl’s in the Australian team Emma McKeon, will take to the water for the 50m freestyle final having qualified second fastest in last night’s semi with a time of 25.60. McKeon has had a heavy schedule but has looked stronger as the games have progressed. Her final is at 6.32pm.
Also contesting finals tonight will be Justin James and Kenneth To in the 100m freestyle. Both swimmers finished their heats and semi finals for the event yesterday qualifying first and eight respectively. To broke the 50 second mark with a time of 49.96, while James swam 51.44. For both swimmers it is a chance to add an individual gold to their swag of other medals.
Nicholas Schafer will look to assert his dominance when he hits the water for the 50m breast stroke final at 8pm. Having won gold in the 100m and bronze in the 200m events, Schafer will be one of the favourites to feature on the dais. He qualified fastest for the final in 28.83.
In the morning session, Max Ackermann is back for his last individual event of the Games in the 200m back stroke at 9.30am. Ackermann will be hoping to replicate his good form which saw him claim bronze in the 50m event on Wednesday night.
With a silver in the 100m breast stroke on Wednesday night, Emily Selig will be aiming up for 200m breast stroke at 9.47am. Should the swimmers make it through, finals for both Ackermann’s 200m backstroke (6.35pm) and Selig’s 200m breast stroke (6.58pm) will be held in the evening session.
Emma McKeon will hit the water at 10.18am for the heat of the 400m freestyle. In the longest swim of the meet, McKeon will be looking to add to her growing collection of medals that features gold, silver and bronze. The final for the 400m freestyle will also be held in the evening session at 7.43pm.
The final of the mixed 4 x 100m medley relay will also take place today with heats the last event in the morning at 10.47am and the final in the evening. The team for the mixed medley relay is yet to be announced.
