Shooting athletes Dan Repacholi, Elise Collier and Katarina Kowplos are looking ahead to the newly introduced Mixed Teams events after missing the finals in their individual Pistol and Rifle events on Day 1 of the Tokyo Games today.

Five-time Olympian Repacholi registered 568 points when placed 30th in the men’s 10m Air Pistol, while Collier and Kowplos finished 42nd and 45th in the women’s 10m Air Rifle.

Repacholi will partner with the experienced Dina Aspandiyarova in the Mixed 10m Air Pistol Teams while Collier and Kowplos will combine with Alex Hoberg and Dane Sampson respectively in the Mixed 10m Air Rifle Teams.

Both Mixed Teams events will be held on Tuesday 27 July.

While Repacholi was disappointed not to have qualified for the 10m Air Pistol final today, he wasn’t upset with how he performed bemoaning a series of 9.9 and 9.8 shots which could have easily counted as 10’s.

“I shot really well although my score may not reflect that. But I will take this forward to the Teams event on Tuesday with Dina,” said Repacholi.

“Hopefully we will be luckier with these shots going inside the 10 rather than just outside,” he added.

“Had they fallen into the 10s, I could easily have made the final.”

While Repacholi has a wealth of international Shooting experience over a lengthy career, today marked the first ever international competition for Collier and Kowplos.

While their qualifying scores may not have met their expectations, it was a steep learning curve and one that will assist them when competing at future World Championships and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Collier shot a score of 618.2 which was below her personal best of 629.4.

“I was pretty disappointed with how I went. But on the plus side, it’s my first international competition, so I really didn’t know what to expect,” she said.

Kowplos registered 617.2 points but was upbeat about her two remaining events – the Mixed Teams and the women’s Rifle 50m 3 Positions.

“It’s great to get this event under my belt and I am looking forward to my next two events,” said Kowplos.
