Victorian shooter Lalita Yauhleuskaya is one step closer to competing at her sixth Olympics after a stellar performance in the penultimate Australian selection trial for Rio.

SHOOTING: Victorian shooter Lalita Yauhleuskaya is one step closer to competing at her sixth Olympics after a stellar performance in the penultimate Australian selection trial for Rio.

Yauhleuskaya took out gold in the women's 25m sport pistol event at Sydney International Shooting Centre at the weekend, with an 8-0 head-to-head win in the final over young gun fellow Olympic hopeful Elena Galiabovitch.

It followed a world-class qualification score of 585.

While the result automatically qualifies her to be nominated for the Rio Games, she'll have to wait another fortnight to see if someone can match or better her mark to fill Australia's sole quota in the event.

"It's a wonderful result and outcome for all of the hard work Lalita has been putting in," said national pistol coach Vladimir Galiabovitch.

"The score would get her into any Olympic or World Cup final, which is exciting for us as we focus on her preparation for Rio."

Yauhleuskaya represented Baralus at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games, where she won a bronze medal.

She has since competed for Australia in Athens, Beijing and London.

Current world champion, Olympic medallist and 53-year-old shooting veteran Warren Potent also won gold in the men's 50m prone rifle, ahead of fellow Olympian Dane Sampson.

Rising teenage star and Rio Games hopeful Jack Rossiter took out the 10m air rifle event, while fan favourite Daniel Repacholi won both the men's 10m air pistol and 50m pistol disciplines.

Despite missing an automatic Rio qualification score, he is still in line to go to his fourth Olympics.

The next and final selection event starts on March 4 in Sydney.
