CANOE/KAYAK SLALOM: Australia’s Jessica Fox has won silver in the women’s K1 at the opening event of the Canoe Slalom World Cup season in Ivrea, Italy, adding to the gold she won in the non-Olympic C1 24 hours earlier.
Fox struggled in the semi-final on Sunday morning, picking up three penalties and qualifying fifth for the final.
But her run in the afternoon was much cleaner, with only Germany’s Ricardo Funk on the last run of the competition able to better her time.
Funk finished in 102.98 seconds, 0.35 seconds ahead of Fox.
“Second place is a good start for the 2016 season,” Fox said.
“It was a bit shaky at the start today, so I really wanted to improve on my semi.
“I’ve got q couple more races to get things right and then do the final tweaks before the Olympics.”
Fox will compete I the next two World Cup events, and then compete in the U23 World Championships before heading to Rio to try and improve on the silver medal she won in London in 2012.
