FREESTYLE - SKI SLOPESTYLE: Anna Segal has delivered two strong qualifying runs in the women’s Ski Slopestyle at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park on Day 4 of the Sochi Games, and will ski in the medal round at 1pm (10pm AEDT).

Segal, 27, qualified in seventh spot for the 12-woman final with her second run score of 78.80 points. She looked more confident on the rails and got bigger air than her first run 75.40.

“It was a little cleaner. I can clean it up even more and think I can add a few more things in there. I’ve got more to give that’s for sure," she said.

Her good result comes despite some pre-competition illness.

“I’m feeling a little bit tired. I’ve had a cold the last few days, but I’ve only got a few more runs to go and I can just rest up."

The top qualifiers were Canadian teammates Dara Howell (88.80) and Kim Lamarre (85.40). Great Britain’s Katie Summerhayes was third (84.00) and another Canadian Yuki Tsubota (81.00) in fourth.

There was some big crashes and upsets in qualifying. Canada's World Champion Kaya Turski missed out on the final and American World Cup winner Keri Herman just scraped through in 11th after some spectacular wipeouts.

Making an Olympic final is a sensational achievement but even more so as Segal has missed months of training recently due to injuries. The 2011 World Champion was selected for the Games subject to passing a fitness test on the weekend.
