Snowsill returns to triathlon

Beijing Olympics gold medallist Emma Snowsill will finally make her return to triathlon on May 8.

Snowsill will race for the first time since June last year when she competes at round two of the world championship series in Seoul.

Hip surgery derailed her campaign last year as Emma Moffatt won the world title and then a virus over the Australian summer delayed Snowsill's comeback.

Fellow Beijing Olympian Erin Densham will also make her comeback in Seoul after needing heart surgery over the summer to treat tachycardia.

Another member of the Beijing triathlon team, Courtney Atkinson, is back after recovering from a virus that ruled him out of the opening world championship round earlier this month in Sydney.

Snowsill is yet to reach full fitness, but will use Seoul as a tune-up towards the big races in Europe and the United States.

"I need to get a race under my belt and Seoul represents a great opportunity to blow out the cobwebs because it's a relatively short trip and on the same time line," Snowsill said.

"I'm itching to get back on the start line - even though I'm probably only at about 80 per cent in terms of race-ready fitness, my body feels good.

"My last couple of weeks training have been very solid and I'm highly motivated to have a good season following the frustrations I endured with injury last year."

The team for Korea of seven men and six women will feature all the Beijing Olympians, with Moffatt and Brad Kahlefeldt also racing.

The Australians are coming off a below-par race in Sydney, where Moffatt's third place was the best result.

Men: Courtney Atkinson, Gareth Halverson, Brad Kahlefeldt, David Matthews, Peter Robertson, James Seear, Dan Wilson.

Women: Felicity Abram, Erin Densham, Emma Jackson, Emma Moffatt, Keira Pride, Emma Snowsill.
