Day 3: On the third and final day of racing at the Calgary World Cup, 22-year-old Daniel Greig was in action in his second 500m race.
After skating 35.11 in his first race, Greig improved a fraction on his time, recording 35.04 in his second race. The time placed him 0.58 seconds behind the eventual winner, Tucker Fredericks of the USA.
With his first World Cup now beind him, Greig is sitting in 26th place on the overall standings for the 500m, with a total of 14 points.
Greig's teammate Ben Southee is ranked 34th, after finishing 29th in the second race of the 500m men's B Division, skating a time of 35.69 seconds.
Greig, Southee and Lochland will now re-group as they prepare for the second World Cup in Salt Lake City, USA - taking place from 15 - 17 November.
Day 2: Daniel Greig has delivered a strong performance in the men's 1000m A Division at the Speed Skating World Cup in Calgary, Canada.
Greig, 22, was 14th in a field of 20 of the world's best skaters. His time of 1:08.86 was just 1.40 seconds behind the fastest skater - USA's Shani Davis, the Olympic Champion from Vancouver 2010 and Torino 2006.
The young Australian's time was justa fraction off his personal best of 1:08.71, but the result is encouraging as he looks to secure his debut Olympic berth for Sochi 2014.
Greig will now rest overnight as he prepares for Race 2 of the men's 500m, where he will be looking to lift his overall ranking.
DAY 1: Competing in Calgary, Canada, 22-year-old Daniel Greig was the first Aussie in action, competing in the first of two races in the 500m sprint event.
Greig was 18th in the race, 0.70 seconds behind the leader - Ronald Mulder of the Netherlands who was the fastest in 34.41 seconds.
Greig will have the opportunity to improve his place and time in the second race, which will take place on Sunday morning (Calgary time). He will also contest the 1000m, with both races on Saturday (Calgary time).
Greig's teammate Ben Southee competed in the men's division B and placed 26th in he 500m, skating a time of 35.72, 1.31 seconds behind the leader.
Twenty-two-year-old Brooke Lochland was Australia's sole female competitor in the World Cup. Competing the B Division of the women's 3000m, Lochland was off the pace, finishing 37th in 4:23.54, 19.86 seconds behind Luiza Zlotkowska of Poland who took out the race in 4:03.68.
Competition continues with the men's 1000m and the final race of the men's 500m still to come for Southee and Greig.
