DAY 3
On the third and final day of the Salt Lake City World Cup, Aussies Daniel Greig and Ben Southee were back in action for the second race of the men's 500m.
Greig couldn't replicate his good form in the first race, finishing 15th in the B Division, in a time of 35.20 seconds.
Southee maintained his position of 27th in a time of 35.62.
The two men will now await the updated Olympic qualification status to see where they sit in the 500m rankings. With two World Cups remaining on the program in Kazakhstan and Germany, there is still opportunity to move up the quota place rankings.
DAY 2
A day after his impressive 500m time at the Salt Lake City World Cup, Daniel Greig was off the pace over the longer 1000m race. Greig skated 1 minute 12.92 seconds to finish 19th in the race. The time was 6.04 seconds behind winner Shani Davis of the USA, and was four seconds of the young Australian's personal best.
Greig will now re-focus ahead of his second shot at the 500m on Day 3 of the World Cup, where he will look to cement his place on the qualification rankings.
Competing in the 1000m B Division, 26-year-old Ben Southee placed 33rd in a time of 1:14.19.
DAY 1
Brooke Lochland was the first Aussie in action in the long track speed skating World Cup overnight in Salt Lake City, USA.
The 22-year-old skater from Melbourne took to the ice in the ladies' 3000m B Division. Lochland was 36th in the gruelling distance race, finishing in 4 minutes 21.93 seconds.
Chasing Olympic qualification in the 500m were Australians Daniel Greig and Ben Southee. In the first of two races in the B Division, Greig was fourth in 34.82 seconds and Southee was 27th in 35.59.
Greig's time was an improvement from last week's World Cup in Calgary, which will see the 22-year-old move up the Olympic qualification rankings. Southee also bettered his time, but will need further improvement if he is to climb out of the reserve ranks into the qualified quota places.
The second race of the 500m is set to take place on Day 3 of the World Cup, and both Greig and Southee will be looking for fast times. Day 2 will see Greig and Southee take on the 1000m.
