Skiing Australia team member KT Calder has produced strong results in the Swiss National Cross Country Championships over the weekend, finishing third in the women’s sprint and making her first sub-100 FIS point result in the 10km freestyle.

The podium result is Australia’s first at the championships since our men won the relay in 1992.

Two days earlier in the 10km freestyle at the championships, held in Pontresina, Calder finished in tenth place to earn 98.94 FIS points.

The result qualifies her for Sprint World Cup and for the Australian Team at the 2005 World Championships in Oberstdorf.
In the sprint, Calder qualified ninth in the 1km time trial, with team-mate Esther Bottomley in seventh place.

Calder came from behind in both her quarter-final and semi-final rounds, then put in her best round of the day in the final, almost overtaking fastest qualifier Mischol on the first hill and being just edged into by Laurence Rochat for second place

Bottomley won her quarter final round but was eliminated in the semis, ultimately finishing third in the B final.

Ben Derrick was the fastest of the Australians in the men’s sprint, finishing 26th,with Tim Retchford one place further back.

Ben Sim finished sixth overall in the junior men’s sprint.
