The Northern Hemisphere winter for the SSA Mogul Skiing Sub Development program has concluded, with the team finishing up the last of its three events of the highly competitive Colorado Rocky Mountain circuit.

The Sub Development Program was coached by Jussi “Legs” Kinnunen, and included junior athletes from club programs at Perisher Blue, Mt Buller and Falls Creek. Athletes in the program were: Hugh Norton, Zac Cunneen, Matthew Graham, Ashley Chapman-Davies, Robert Wojick, Kate Blamey, Heidi Graham, Sarah Melville and Roanna Humphries.

Before heading to Colorado, athletes in the program attended a training camp in Silver Star, Canada, alongside the NSWIS/SSA program. Unfortunately, Kate Blamey injured her knee and had to return home.

At the first event in Steamboat Springs, leading results came from Hugh Norton and Roanna Humprhires, who both finished in tenth place in their respective open divisions.

The next stop on the circuit was Breckenridge, where exciting 13-year-old prospect Matthew Graham showed the older kids how it was done, finishing in sixth place overall, easily winning his division. Sarah Melville also won her division, finishing in 15th place in the single moguls and equal ninth in duals.

Vail was the final stop for the program and Matthew Graham and Hugh Norton both finished strongly, recording eleventh place overall results in the men’s division over the two days of competition. Sarah Melville was again our leading female, winning her division and finishing eleventh overall on day one.

In summary, the program was a huge success, with great competition experience gained against the best junior talent in the world, and some excellent results also achieved.
