The World Snowboard Championships get under way on January 16, with Australia naming a 13 member team to make the journey to Whistler, Canada.

OWI athletes Torah Bright, Hannah Trigger, Mitchell Allan, Andrew Burton and Ben Mates will contest the halfpipe, with Bright a strong contender for a medal after finishing second on the World Cup last season, and Burton looking strong after consecutive top ten performances in his last two World Cup events.

Ski and Snowboard Australia athletes Stephanie Hickey, Jo Shaw and Emily Thomas will all contest the snowboard cross, with Shaw also lining up for the parallel slalom and PGS.

Four men – Daymon Hayler, Alex Pullin, Taan Robrahn and Kai Robrahn - will ride in snowboard cross, while Emmanuel Oppliger will compete in PGA and PSL.

Australia’s best performances in the 2003 World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria, were 14th in Big Air by Marcus Wherle, 15th in halfpipe to Frances Miller and 20th in snowboard cross to Emily Thomas, with Jo Shaw one place further back.
