The Bobsleigh National Touring Team will depart Australia in late October to compete in the North American and European Challenge Cups.
The female pilots must rank in the top two and the male pilots in the top four to qualify their spot at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
If they are successful, Australia will send its first ever female bobsleigh team to a Winter Olympics as well as its first male team since the 1998 Nagano Games.
The National Touring Team is comprised of five female athletes - Mieke Boynton (Melbourne), Abby Lewtas (Geelong), Astrid Loch Wilkinson (Sydney), Dani Lynch (Melbourne) and Kylie Reed (Perth) - and six male athletes - Will Alstergren (Melbourne), Mark Bellamy (Melbourne), Glenn Manton (Melbourne), Joel Maybury (Melbourne), Robert Patterson (Melbourne) and Peter Wilkinson (Melbourne).
