Tina Wang and Nicholas Fernandez are among eight Australian figure skaters currently competing at the Four Continent Championship, being held this year in the Goyang City, Korea. Fernandez is lying in 15th place in the men’s competition after the short program, after earning 41.14 points from the judges.

The 2007 World Championship silver medallist Daisuke Takahashi of Japan leads the field on 88.57 points, with defending Four Continents title holder Evan Lysacek of the US in second place on 84.06 points.

Canada’s Torino bronze medallist Jeffery Buttle is in third place on 83.83 points.

Wang is in 21st place at the halfway mark of the ladies’ competition. The 16-year-old Brisbane skater scored 30.57 points for the short program in the her first senior international competition.

The three women skaters leading the field are separated by less than a point.

Mao Asada of Japan, the 2007 world championships silver medallist is on 60.94 points, with her team-mate Miko Ando, the current world champion, on 60.07 points.

Canada’s Joannie Rochette is in third position on 60.04 points.

In the other Australian results, Robert McNamara is in 21st place in the men’s on 32.42 points, while Phoebe di tomasso is in 28th place in the ladies’ competition on 25.76 points.

And after the compulsory dance and original dance segments of the ice dancing competition, Danielle O’Brien and Gregory Merriman are in tenth place on 58.80 points, while their compatriots Maria and Evgeni Boronouv are 13th on 52.71 points.

Canadian pair Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir lead the dancers on 103.24 points.
