Paris 2024 selected road cyclist Michael Matthews has started a massive month of competition with the Tour de France and Australia’s Wimbledon assault starts tonight after more Aussies added from qualifying.

Road Cycling – Olympic Team selection into the Tour de France for Matthews

Paris 2024 selected road cyclist Michael Matthews is one of six Aussies to have entered the Tour de France, with the opening two stages having taken place on the same weekend as his selection for the Olympics.

Michael, 133rd after the opening two stages, is joined by fellow countrymen Jai Hindley (33rd), Chris Harper (39th), Jack Haig (41st), Luke Durbridge (139th) and Jarrad Drizners (161st).

 

The Tour de France continues through to the 21st of July, with the Paris 2024 Olympic road cycling competition to follow from the 3rd-4th of August.

Tennis – Wimbledon first round begins tonight

Fourteen Aussie men and women are set for first round Grand Slam singles action on the grass courts of Wimbledon tonight.

The nation’s Paris 2024 bound highest ranked singles player, Alex de Minaur, has drawn fellow Aussie James Duckworth after Corentin Moutet (FRA) withdrew from the tournament.

 

In the women’s draw Ajla Tomljanovic is bringing the form that has won her eight grass court matches in the past month to world no.14 Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) in the first round.
