SNOWBOARD CROSS: Being chosen by the AOC to represent Australia as an Olympian is a huge honour.
SNOWBOARD CROSS: Being chosen by the AOC to represent Australia as an Olympian is a huge honour.
What I have enjoyed most about this experience has been the camaraderie and support of a Team of athletes who all wear the same uniform, all have the same level of support and all have the same opportunity to do their best on the world stage.
Boardercross is an individual sport and it doesn’t matter who is in the gate next to you, your job is to beat them down the course whether they are Australian or from the rest of the world, but the opportunity the AOC has created with the Australian Team environment has been fantastic.
Australia has an awesome team of Snowboardcross athletes with Torah Bright and Belle Brockhoff racing today, tomorrow in the men’s race we have Alex Pullin who is the current World Champion, Cam Bolton who made the final at X-Games a couple of weeks ago and me who is currently ranked World #2. We will all go out to do our very best to win, but we are all up against a World Class field in a race where anyone can win.
It’s time Australia to get behind our Snowboardercross Team – Go Aussies!
Darren Hughes, on behalf of his son Jarryd Hughes
Yesterday Jarryd gave “no comment” to questions from the media. Jarryd did not want to do any media in the leadup to the Olympics, or during the Olympics, including social media. I had discussed this with his father. Unfortunately he found himself in a Mixed Zone yesterday. There was no malice in his “no comments” it was his way of not wanting to comment on anything before his event.
He is 18 years old at his first Olympics!
