Where are your Aussie athletes as final preparations continue
With less than 10 days until the Opening Ceremony in Rio the Australian athletes have started arriving from all around the world. Some are competing, at training camps or just touching down.

Archery: The four archers have recently been at a training camp in Taiwan to replicate the competition conditions in Rio. They then returned to their base in Brisbane for the final preparation camp and arrived in Rio on Tuesday evening (Wednesday morning AEST).

Athletics: The largest section of the 2016 Olympic Team are travelling to their pre-Olympic camp in Florida, USA.  Athletes will then arrive in waves to Rio, depending on when they are competing and their discipline. A special Brazilian BBQ is being organised for the viewing of the Opening Ceremony.

Badminton:  The five badminton players to represent Australia in Rio will arrive in Rio on August 3.

Basketball: Ten women’s basketballers left Australian shores to link up with WNBA stars Erin Phillips and Penny Taylor in Dallas where they head into camp. The side defeated Canada 80-67 in Delaware and next face France on July 30 in Connecticut. They then take on the USA on August 1 at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden. Their first clash in Rio is a blockbuster against hosts Brazil on Day 1 (August 6).

The men’s basketball team are in Buenos Aires, Argentina where they played Argentina on July 26. They then head to Sao Paolo where they face Brazil, Lithuania and China before a final warm up match on August 3 in Rio. They take on France in their Rio 2016 opener on Day 1 (August) of the Games.

Beach Volleyball: Both Australian teams – Louise Bawden / Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar / Nicole Laird - are in Austria for the last major of the tour before the Olympic Games. They’ll then travel straight to Rio.

Boxing: The three Australian boxers for Rio – Daniel Lewis, Shelley Watts and Jason Whateley arrived in Rio on Monday.

Canoe - Slalom: Ian Borrows, Jessica Fox and Lucien Delfour were the first Australian athletes to arrive in Rio. They touched down early on Monday morning after flying out from Frankfurt. Borrows had been in England, Delfour in France and Fox fresh from winning the u23 world championships in Poland.

Canoe – Flatwater: The 13-strong canoe/kayak team are preparing at various training locations in Europe including the AIS training facility in Varese, Italy. They’ll arrive in Rio a few days after the opening ceremony for the competition on Lake Lagoa in downtown Rio.

Cycling – BMX: The BMX team have donned their green and gold kit and hit the track at Chula Vista in San Diego. The course is a Rio replica and the five-strong team have had plenty of time on the course.

Cycling – Mountain Bike: Mountain bikers Dan McConnell, Rebecca Henderson and Scott Bowden are in Switzerland as they look to finalise their preparations in the lead up to Rio. Bowden will also compete in the road event on Day 1 of the Games while the men and women’s mountain bike events are in the final couple of days of the Games.

Cycling - Road: Richie Porte just became the equal second highest ranked finisher at the Tour de France while Rohan Dennis pulled out of the event to preserve himself for Rio. Both men are well in contention for both the road race and more notably the individual time trial. They’re joined in the event by Scott Bowden and late call-up Simon Clarke who will compete in Clasica Ciclista San Sebastian before heading to Rio.

Cycling- Track: The men’s and women’s track sprint teams and the women’s endurance team have all been training in Los Angeles while the men’s endurance team have been in Mexico. The teams are set to arrive in Rio on the morning of July 27 (local time) and will be aiming to secure a swag of medals when competition gets underway in Rio.

Diving: The majority of the divers arrived on Wednesday night in Rio (local time) after training in their home states, except for Anabelle Smith who has spent time training in Brisbane alongside synchro partner Maddison Keeney before a quick trip home to Melbourne and then on the plane to Brazil.

Equestrian – Dressage: These riders will gather for a pre-Games camp from 30 July – 2 August, in Aachen, Germany. Horses depart out of Belgium on 2 August.

Equestrian – Eventing: The Eventing combinations have been preparing in Gloucestershire, England and will travel to Rio at the end of July. Their horses travel on a charter flight organised by the International Federation.

Equestrian – Jumping: The four combinations will prepare separately before travelling to Brazil. Edwina Tops-Alexander and James Paterson-Robinson will fly out of Europe, Matt Williams and Scott Keach will fly out of USA.

Football: The women’s football team have wrapped up their camp in Fortaleza with a 3-1 loss to Brazil. The side is now in Sao Paolo where they finalise their preparations before being the first Australian athletes to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. They take on Canada on August 3 in Sao Paolo, two days before the Opening Ceremony.

Golf: Minjee Lee, Su Oh, Scott Hend and Marcus Fraser will continue their busy tournament schedule leading in to the Games. The men compete first and will arrive just after the opening ceremony and the women arrive midway through the Games. History awaits these players.

Gymnastics: Two of Australia’s gymnasts, Larrissa Miller (artistic) and Blake Gaudry (trampoline) arrived in Rio on Tuesday night (local time) after a long flight from Australia. While rhythmic gymnast Danielle Prince has been training at her home in Brisbane and won’t arrive until the 13th of August with her qualification round not until August 19 (day 14).

Hockey:  The men's hockey team has touched down in Rio Tuesday night (local time) after flying from Perth to Sydney to Rio. They were among the first Australian athletes to move into the Athletes' Village. The women's team flew from Perth on the weekend to Santiago, Chile for a training camp for a few days before they move into the Village.

Judo: All seven Aussie judokas have touched down in Rio with five of the team arriving from Australia and Katharina Haecker and Miranda Giambelli flying from their European bases. Chloe Rayner and Josh Katz both scheduled to compete on Day 1 (August 6) of the Games.

Modern Pentathlon: Siblings Max and Chloe Esposito have been finalising their preparations for the Games at an altitude training camp in Mexico with their father and coach Daniel. They will be amongst the last group of athletes who arrive in Rio on August 15. Their competition starts on day 13 (August 18).

Rowing: The selected crews for the Rio Olympic Games have been based at the Training Centre in Varese Italy. They will arrive in Rio on Friday. The women’s eight who got a late call-up for the Games will fly in from Australia next week before the Opening Ceremony.

Rugby Sevens: The men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams have just touched down in Rio after both wrapping up their time in Australia at their Narrabeen base on Sydney’s northern beaches.

They have headed to a camp not far from Rio and will head into the Village as the Games draw closer. The women take to the field on the opening three days (August 6-8) while the men follow on Days 4-6 (August 9-11).

Sailing: Six of the sailors have been training around Rio with the remaining to arrive early next week. These athletes would be the most familiar with the Rio conditions which is crucial for their sport.

Shooting: The shooters have recently completed a camp in Darwin and are about to leave Australia as they look to continue their rich tradition in the sport in Rio. The first athletes have begun arriving and will come in sporadically as the Games draw closer.  

Swimming: The Team is at a Rio staging camp is Auburn, Alabama where the time difference of only two hours behind Rio will help them adjust quickly. They are training at the late times to replicate Rio competition at what will be a late-night Games. They are due to touch down in Brazil on Sunday. They will have their first look at the Rio pool the following morning.

Synchronised Swimming: Our synchronised swimming team will arrive in Rio on August 2 after training in camp at the AIS in Canberra where they were even joined in the pool by a reporter from Channel 7’s Sunrise. 

Table Tennis: All but one of Australia’s table tennis players had their last major hit out before the Games at Tweed Heads last week and will head to Rio where the singles competition will get underway on Day 1 of the Games.

Taekwondo: After some strong recent results overseas in recent months Australia’s four-strong taekwondo team returned to Australia to finalise their training for Rio 2016. Safwan Khalil and training partner and Rio teammate Hayder Shkara will depart from Sydney and arrive just before the Games kick off while sisters Carmen and Caroline Marton will arrive from Melbourne and will get in just after Rio kicks off.

Triathlon: Ryan Fisher, Aaron Royle and Ryan Bailie all competed at the WTS Hamburg event in mid-July with Bailie finishing best in fifth. The trio, along with women's representatives Emma Moffatt, Ashleigh Gentle and Erin Densham, will touch down in Rio a few days into the Games. 

Tennis: John Peers celebrated his 28th birthday at the Rogers Cup in Toronto while John Millman, Daria Gavrilova were competing at the Toronto Masters. Soon to be four-time Olympian Sam Stosur was warming up for Rio at the Citi Open in Washington DC. They will all assemble in Rio on August 2.

Weightlifting: Queenslander Tia-Clair Toomey has just finished second at the World Cross-Fit Games in the US. She will continue to train in Miami until she arrives on the weekend, joining teammate Simplice Ribouem who will fly from his base in Melbourne.

Wrestling: The three wrestlers are making their final preparations in Australia before arriving in Rio. The freestyle wrestlers come in ahead of the Opening Ceremony and Ivan Popov (Greco) the middle of the first week.
