Davina Williams has become the fourth Australian winter sports athlete to finish the season in the world’s top five, ending the 2008 ski cross World Cup in fourth place.
Williams added a fourth placing in the World Cup final in Valmalenco, Italy, to the bronze medal she had won earlier in the season, to join Dale Begg-Smith, Jacqui Cooper and Lydia Lassila in the elite echelon of freestyle skiing.
US skier Jennifer Hudak won the final race in the three-event season of the fledgling discipline, scoring 40.2 points from the judges for her best run.
Canadian Sarah Burke took the silver with 39.7 points, while her compatriot Rosalind Groenwoud claimed the gold with 29.8 points.
Williams posted 29.4 points.
Burke’s two victories and one silver from the season gave her the World Cup title on 280 points, 20 ahead of Hudak.
Groenwoud finished on 160 while Williams had 139 points.
Unlike the other relatively new freestyle discipline, ski cross, ski halfpipe will not be part of the program at the Vancouver 2010 Games.
