Sydney 2000 sailing gold medallist Tom King has accepted a management role with the Australian team competing at the Winter Olympics in Torino in February.
King will manage team operations in the Olympic Village in Torino including logistics and transport.
“This is very much a hands on role and Tom brings a wealth of logistical and Olympic Games experience to the team and we welcome him to the Australian team management,” said Craig Phillips, AOC Secretary General and 2006 Australian Team Operations Director.
King is chairman of the AOC Athletes Commission and a member of the AOC Executive Board.
He joins rowing gold medallist James Tomkins on the 2006 team.
Tomkins has assumed the role of Athlete Liaison Officer (ALO). He will work with the athletes and coaches acting as a mentor and motivator by sharing his Olympic experiences.
“Having James and Tom as team members is a very big positive for us,” said Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman.
”Many of our athletes will be first-timers and having people like James Tomkins and Tom King at your side boosts confidence and maximises performance."
