WATER POLO: The Women’s Water Polo team have arrived in the Athletes Village after the team was forced into isolation due to a bug that affected four players.
While one player remains in isolation, the rest of the team today moved into the Village and there was no taking away from their excitement of joining the rest of the Australian Olympic Team.
Vice-Captain Rowie Webster said they were thrilled to finally arrive in the Village and can’t wait to get competition away.
“We are so pumped to finally be here. Arriving in Rio last night but not being able to go into the Village was a bit disappointing but I’m just stoked to move in.
“We are all doing well and the small issue with the bug isn’t going impact our preparation, we are ready to roll,” said Webster.
With the majority of the team now settled into the Village and the team has wasted no time getting familiar with their surroundings.
Dual Olympian Ash Southern is one of the most experienced players on the team but remains the youngest on the side. She said the excitement is there every time you enter an Athlete’s Village.
“Being able to get into the Village, get settled and start to focus on the competition is just so exciting,” said Southern.
“Everyone has been back in the pool since Saturday and feeling really well. We’ve left one behind, but we hope she’ll join us tomorrow and look forward to having everyone here.
“We are all buzzing and can’t wait to get into training tonight and turn our attention to the games ahead,” she said.
The Women’s Water Polo team will check out competition venue Maria Lenk on Tuesday night (local time) for their first training session in Rio.
