Yeaton wraps up Australia's PyeongChang 2018 campaign

Jess Yeaton has wrapped up her debut Olympic campaign with a 42nd place finish in the gruelling 30km Mass Start Classic event at Alpensia Cross Country Centre.

PYEONGCHANG 2018: Jess Yeaton has wrapped up her debut Olympic campaign with a 42nd place finish in the gruelling 30km Mass Start Classic event at Alpensia Cross Country Centre.

Wearing the green and gold as the last Australian to compete at the PyeongChang 2018 Games, Yeaton finished the race in 1:40.55.

Norway's Marit Bjoergen, the most decorated athlete in Winter Olympic history, took the gold medal to help her country leapfrog Germany to the top of the medal tally at the last possible moment.

For Yeaton she was proud to push through the pain and finish her fifth Olympic race.

"It was really hard and harder than I expected," Yeaton said.

"I expected to ski with more people for longer but I'm glad I made it through.

"I gave it my all."

Yeaton's Olympic dream has been a long time in the making and she was pumped to have the chance to wear the green and gold at PyeongChang.

"I'm very proud to represent my country here.

"I was thinking the whole time just keep trying and pushing for Australia."

Bjoergen dominated throughout the race to finish just under two minutes ahead of Finland's Krista Parmakovski and Sweden's Stina Nilsson.

Yeaton said that it was amazing to be competing against the most dominant athlete in the sport's history.

"I saw her and thought that's unbelievable," Yeaton said.

"She's such a legend and I think that is her last race.

"It's awesome that she was able to go out there and crush and get a gold medal."

The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games will now officially end at tonight's Closing Ceremony. Watch it live on Channel 7.
