Seven Australian’s taste World Cup competition for the first time as the home side continues to expose its youth to international competition.
Kayla Jade Tompkins is Australia’s youngest competitor for the day, the 14-year-old Katoomba resident will line up in the 10m women’s air pistol category.
Joining Tompkins will be Pam McKenzie (WA) and multiple Olympians Linda Ryan (VIC), Dina Aspandiyarova (VIC) and Lalita Yauhleuskaya (VIC).
Yauhleuskaya will be looking to add to her impressive World Cup medal tally, securing a bronze in last year’s World Cup in China.
In the women’s 10m air rifle category, 16-year-old Victorian Alethea Sedgman, Western Australian Kadiejayne Tirkot and Alice Styles (NSW) will all make their first appearance at World Cup level.
The talented New South Wales pair of Susannah Smith and Robyn Van Nus line up alongside the three youngsters, Van Nus looking to build on her impressive 2009 international season.
The men’s 50m pistol category will be the final event of the day. Alfio Casagrande (QLD), 18, and 17-year-old Janek Janski (VIC) will be looking to gain international experience along with Victorian Chris Roberts.
World Cup regular, David Moore (NSW) will be looking for a strong start to his 2010 international campaign. Favourite to take out the event is 2008 Beijing Gold medallist and multiple World Cup winner, South Korea’s Jin Jong-oh.
