Zali Steggall was inducted as a member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Annual dinner at the Crown Palladium Ballroom on Thursday, December 9, in company with Ian Healy (cricket), Vicki Wilson (netball) and David Bell (Men’s Hockey).
Zali becomes just the second skier to receive the honour, following in the footsteps of Australian downhill legend Malcolm Milne, and only the fourth representative of winter sports. She was chosen from 53 other nominations.
Zali was the first Australian to win an individual Olympic medal – bronze in slalom in Nagano in 1998 – and the first Australian to win a world championship skiing title – in Vail, Colorado, 1999.
Ski and Snowboard Australia and the OWI are delighted that another athlete from snowsport has received this prestigious recognition from the Hall of Fame. After the Salt Lake City Games Alisa Camplin and Steven Bradbury jointly received the annual “The Don” award, which this year was won by Petria Thomas.
