Aidan's Story
Making his senior debut at the age of 18 against Slovakia, Aidan Zingel went on to compete for the Australians at the 2009 Asian Championships where the team finished 7th. Having begun playing professionally in Europe in 2009, he was named 2011 Australian male player of the year and was one of Australia’s top scorers at the Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Making his Olympic debut in 2012, Zingel and the Australian team lost their first match to Argentina before knocking off hosts Great Britain in straight sets. Despite not winning a set against Hungary, the Aussies took a 2-0 set lead over Italy before the world’s sixth ranked team claimed victory 3-2. Zingel and his teammates then pulled off one of the upsets of the Games when they defeated third ranked Poland 3-1. The Team’s final placing was ninth.
