Albert's Story

Albert Frank “Bert” Jacobs was an Australian equestrian who represented Australia in show jumping at the 1956 Olympic Games. Born on 23 September 1929, Jacobs became Australia’s first Olympic representative in the sport of show jumping and a member of Australia’s inaugural Olympic equestrian team.

At the 1956 Olympic equestrian competition in Stockholm, Jacobs competed aboard Dumbell in the individual jumping event and proudly carried the Australian flag at the Opening Ceremony.

A pioneer of Australian equestrian sport, Jacobs was the first Australian to win an international show-jumping competition overseas. He later won the Australian Show Jumping Championship and helped develop the sport through coaching, administration and the establishment of the Melbourne Show Jumping Club.
