Alec's Story
Alec Beattie is a former footballer who represented Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Born in Scotland, Beattie later emigrated to Australia and played club football with Adelaide Budapest, becoming one of South Australia's leading players of the era.
Beattie was selected in Australia's football squad for the 1956 Olympics, the first Games held in Australia. Although listed in the Olympic team, he did not take the field during the tournament.
His selection reflected the growing strength of migrant contributions to Australian football during the post-war period and his standing within South Australian soccer.
