Alexander's Story
Alex McEwan is a two-time Olympian, competing in short track speed skating at the Salt Lake City 2000 and Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
McEwan was a memeber of the Australian 5000m relay team that finished sixth in Salt Lake 2002. Leading into the Games, the 2002/03 season was McEwan's best, producing an end of season overall ranking of nine and the same ranking in the 500m. During the course of the season, he skated to two top ten placings in the 500m, and also had a string of top 15 results. The following season he was 15th overall and 18th on the 1500m standings, his best individual result a 10th in the 1500m in China and an 11th in the 500m in the Canadian leg of the circuit.
McEwan took a break from the circuit for several events during the 2004/05 season, but returned for the opening legs of the 2005/06 Olympic season, making his second Olympic Winter Team. At the Torino Games he contested the 500m individual event, finishing fourth in his heat, 22nd overall.
