Alison's Story
Born in Adelaide in 1974, Alison Davies emerged from South Australian rowing and was affiliated with Adelaide University Boat Club. She was 21 at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games and 25 at Sydney 2000, where she represented Australia in the women’s eight. Through the 1990s she developed into a regular member of Australia’s top women’s sweep crew. Davies’ Olympic story is one of consistency at the highest level. In Atlanta, Australia finished fifth in the women’s eight, progressing through the repechage before recording 6:30.10 in the A final. Four years later, on home water at Penrith, the Australian eight again placed fifth, this time in 6:15.16. Those results meant Davies was part of two Olympic finals in the same boat class, a notable achievement in an event that demands depth, rhythm and long-term crew cohesion. She had also been a junior world champion in 1992, an early sign of the class that carried her into senior Australian crews.
