Alistair's Story
Alexander Scott “Alistair” Rattray was a Scottish-born Australian footballer who represented Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Born in Burrelton, Scotland, on 16 February 1925, Rattray migrated to Tasmania and became one of the state's most respected footballers.
A skilful half-back, Rattray played for Caledonians FC in Hobart and earned Australian selection after strong performances for Tasmania against touring international teams. He became the first Tasmanian footballer selected for an Olympic football squad.
Although named in Australia's squad for the 1956 Olympics, he did not appear in a tournament match. Nevertheless, his selection remains an important milestone in Tasmanian football history.
