Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea started playing rugby at 14-years-old after being encouraged to try out the sport by some friends.
The New Zealand-born athlete first debuted with the Wallaroos in 2019, after a successful season in the Super W. The dominant force helped the Queensland side to the finals, however, her team were ultimately defeated by eventual champions NSW.
Alysia made her rugby sevens international debut in May 2021, playing against the Black Ferns as part of a pre-Olympic six-match tournament. Earlier in the year, she overcame an ankle injury to play for Griffith University for the Aon University Sevens round on the Gold Coast.
Alysia made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, where Australia would advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament at the end of a competitive group stage. This would set up a quarter-final tie against Fiji, were Australia would lose a tense matchup 14-12 and no longer qualify for medal contention. Alysia would finish her Olympic debut on a high, defeating both the ROC and the United States to achieve a 5th overall placing in the tournament.
