About Rosie

Gold Coast local, Ambrosia (Rosie) Malone, is a very gifted athlete who has found success in a range of different sports.

Rosie’s mother, Cheryl, played hockey for Burleigh, so when Rosie was six it was only natural that she picked up a hockey stick. However, Rosie wanted to enjoy a range of different sports, and being a very active and sporty kid she found it easy to excel in them all.

At 12 years of age she was selected for the Football Australia U13 women's team and competed in the AFC Festival of Football in Vietnam. Rosie was subsequently named to the Football Australia national squad in 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2012 she was also the youngest player to be named in the FAU17 Junior World Cup squad.

In 2015, Rosie was offered a place in the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) football program, however, she didn’t want to give up participating in her other sports so she turned the offer down.

A year later, she was selected to be a member of the Australian hockey junior national team – The Jillaroos – and was a part of the bronze medal winning team at the 2016 Hockey Junior World Cup in Chile.

At the 2016 AHL Championships, she scored two goals for her team the Queensland Scorchers, helping them beat the Victorian Vipers 3-2 in the lead-up to the grand final.

In early 2018 Rosie was selected for her Hockeyroos debut in a test against Spain. Shortly after, she was selected to play for Australia in the Tri-Nations series against Japan, where she scored her first international goal.

Rosie went on to play alongside the Hockeyroos at the 2019 FIH Pro League and Oceania Cup where the team won silver. She also played at the Olympic Test event in Tokyo in August 2019.

She made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 as part of the Hockeyroos squad that travelled to Japan for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. An undefeated group stage for Australia, where Rosie scored the nation's first goal of the tournament against Spain, was followed up by a tense quarter-final loss against India, which ended 1-0.
