Andrew's Story

Sydney-born Andrew Kerr represented the Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club and became one of Australia’s most enduring men’s water polo Olympians. He made his Olympic debut at Montreal 1976 aged 22, helping Australia finish 11th in the men’s tournament. It was the beginning of a career spanning four consecutive Olympic Games, an Australian water polo appearance record he shares with several other players.

Kerr returned at Moscow 1980, where Australia placed seventh, before achieving the finest result of his Olympic career at Los Angeles 1984. The Australians advanced to the final round and finished fifth, a result that remains the nation’s equal-best placing in the Olympic men’s competition. Kerr completed his Olympic career at Seoul 1988, aged 34, as Australia finished eighth. Across 12 years and four Games, he was part of a period in which the Australian men progressed from 11th in Montreal to compete among the leading teams at Los Angeles.
