Anna's Story

Born in Melbourne in 1971, Anna Millward competed at the Olympics under her maiden name, Anna Wilson, before later racing as Anna Millward. Affiliated with Melton, she developed into one of Australia’s leading road cyclists of the late 1990s and early 2000s and was 24 when she made her Olympic debut at Atlanta 1996. She returned for the Sydney 2000 Games at 28, by then firmly established among the best road riders in the world.   Millward finished 10th in the individual time trial and 17th in the road race at Atlanta. Four years later, on home roads in Sydney, she came within half a wheel of a medal in the road race and placed fourth, then backed up with another fourth in the individual time trial. Beyond the Olympics, her career included Commonwealth Games medals, two silver medals at the UCI Road World Championships and major World Cup success, confirming her standing as one of Australia’s finest road cyclists of her era.
