Anna's Story

Born in Sydney in 1976, Anna Windsor was raised in Orange after her family moved there when she was still a baby. As a child she played several sports, including cross-country, athletics and netball, before committing herself to swimming. Windsor joined the Orange Swimming Club at eight, and the limits of training in a regional centre eventually led her to move to the Central Coast in 1992 to further her career. She was 20 when she made her Olympic debut at Atlanta 1996 and 24 when she returned for the Sydney 2000 Games.

Windsor built an international career through both freestyle and medley, with her finest results including Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay in 1994 and again in 1998, plus a world short-course title in the 200m medley in Rio in 1995. She also won relay medals at world championships and Pan Pacific level, underlining her value in Australian teams through the 1990s. At Atlanta, Windsor swam in Australia’s women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team, which finished sixth in the Olympic final. Four years later, at a home Olympics in Sydney, she contested the 200m individual medley and placed 25th overall. After her second Games, Windsor retired from elite swimming and completed a medical degree, later returning to Orange as a doctor.
