Anne's Story
Born in Brisbane in 1959, Anne Manning was affiliated with St George District Athletics Club in Hurstville and built her career in race walking. She was 36 when she represented Australia at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games in the women’s 10-kilometre walk. Manning finished 19th in Atlanta in 45:27.0. Her personal best was at 44:27, set in 1996, showing that she reached the Olympics in one of the strongest years of her career. Her Olympic appearance placed her among the Australian women who carried race walking onto the international stage during an important period for the event’s growth.
