Annette's Story
Born in Melbourne in 1947, Annette Woodward built a long international career in pistol shooting and was affiliated with Melbourne Airport Pistol Club. Woodward was 48 when she made her Olympic debut at Atlanta 1996 and 56 when she returned for Athens 2004, an achievement that reflected both her durability and her standing in Australian shooting across more than a decade.
Woodward competed in the women’s 25-metre pistol at both Games, finishing 23rd in Atlanta and improving to 18th in Athens. Her wider career was distinguished by outstanding Commonwealth Games success, including gold medals in the 10-metre air pistol pairs and 25-metre sport pistol pairs in 1994, along with individual silver and bronze medals, before adding another pairs gold in 1998. Those results placed her among Australia’s most accomplished female pistol shooters of her era.
