Baeden's Story

1976 -

Baeden Choppy won a bronze medal as a member of the Australian men’s hockey team in 1996. In doing so, Choppy became the first male indigenous athlete to represent Australia in hockey at an Olympic Games. The talented forward was a noted goal sneak, his speed causing headaches for defenders. The Kookaburras went through the preliminary round undefeated, recording four wins and a draw from its five matches. In the semi-final they were defeated by Spain 2-1. The Kookaburras returned to their winning ways in the bronze medal final, beating Germany 3-2.
