Barry's Story
Barry R. Holmes is a former Australian diver who represented Australia at both the 1956 Melbourne and 1960 Rome Olympic Games. Born in Werris Creek, New South Wales, on 17 August 1935, Holmes specialised in the men's 10-metre platform event.
At the Melbourne Olympics, Holmes competed in the men's platform event and finished 22nd. He later returned to Olympic competition at Rome 1960, demonstrating remarkable longevity at the highest level of the sport.
As one of Australia's leading platform divers during the late 1950s, Holmes helped establish Australia's international presence in diving during an important developmental period for the sport.
