Brennon's Story
Born in Wagga Wagga in 1971, Brennon Dowrick became one of Australia’s best-known male gymnasts through the 1990s and trained at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. Dowrick was 21 when he competed at Barcelona 1992 and 25 at Atlanta 1996, representing Australia at a time when the nation was working to establish a stronger presence in men’s artistic gymnastics.
Dowrick’s best Olympic result came in Atlanta, where he reached the men’s all-around final and finished 35th after placing 45th in qualification. He had earlier competed in Barcelona, where he was 61st in the all-around. Beyond the Olympics, his career was distinguished by a rich Commonwealth Games record, including pommel horse gold in 1990 and 1994, as well as team and all-around medals. Those achievements helped make him one of the leading figures in Australian men’s gymnastics of his generation.
