Bret's Story
Born in Sydney in 1973, Bret Hudson developed into one of Australia’s leading male artistic gymnasts of the 1990s and was affiliated with Ingleburn RSL before training at the Australian Institute of Sport. Hudson was 22 when he represented Australia at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, reaching the sport’s highest stage after a rise that had already marked him out as one of the country’s most gifted all-around gymnasts.
Hudson finished 51st in the men’s all-around in Atlanta. His broader career, however, was distinguished by notable Commonwealth Games success, including vault gold and team silver in Victoria in 1994, followed by team silver and bronze medals on vault and parallel bars in Kuala Lumpur in 1998. He also represented Australia at multiple world championships and was later inducted into the Gymnastics Australia Hall of Fame. Those achievements secured his place among the most accomplished Australian male gymnasts of his generation.
