Brian's Story
Born in Wollongong, New South Wales, in 1970, Brian Morton represented Australia in canoe sprint at two Olympic Games and was affiliated with Sunshine Coast Paddlesports Club. Morton was 26 at Atlanta 1996 and 30 at Sydney 2000, building an international career in kayak events during a competitive period for Australian paddling.
Morton’s best Olympic result came in Atlanta, where he was part of the Australian men’s kayak four crew that finished ninth in the 1000 metres after winning its semi-final. Four years later, at the Sydney Olympics, he raced in the men’s kayak double 1000 metres and placed 14th. Beyond the Games, Morton also won a bronze medal in the kayak four 1000 metres at the 1997 world championships, underlining his standing in Australian canoe sprint during the late 1990s.
