Brian's Story
Born in Canberra in 1974, Brian Power emerged from Marist Judo Club to represent Australia in judo at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Power was 22 when he competed in the men’s extra-lightweight division, earning selection in a sport where Olympic places were especially hard won and where the margins between progress and elimination were often slight.
At Atlanta, Power finished equal 21st in the under-60 kilogram class. While the available official profile material is brief, his Olympic selection remains a significant achievement and places him among the Australian judoka who carried the sport onto the Games stage during the 1990s. His appearance in Atlanta secured his place in Australia’s Olympic judo history.
