Brian's Story
Brian Harold Wilkinson was an Australian butterfly swimmer who represented Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Born in Muswellbrook, New South Wales, on 12 February 1938, Wilkinson developed into one of Australia's leading butterfly specialists.
At Melbourne 1956, he reached the final of the men's 200-metre butterfly and finished seventh.
His greatest competitive achievements came at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, where he won gold in the 4×220-yard freestyle relay and bronze in the 220-yard butterfly. He also set a world record in the 110-yard butterfly and later became a highly respected coach, serving on Australia's coaching staff at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
